Yip, we are pregnant along with everyone else it seems. This is public knowledge already, the blog has just been ignored for the past few months.
We're due the middle of September and couldn't be happier!
Baby "it" was quite the surprise. In no way were we planning on getting pregnant, but then again not everything can be planned. But by the time baby gets here, Reese and I will have over 3 years of marriage under our belts and so although it wasn't perfect timing, we do feel pretty settled as far as married life goes. I did what I'm sure most girls do and took about 8 pregnancy tests to make sure. It wasn't until my ultra sound at 10 weeks that I actually believed I had a baby growing inside me!
We found out when I was about 3-4 weeks along. I had my suspicions when 1. I wasn't loosing weight and toning up (which given the diet and exercise program I was doing I should have been), 2. I started breaking out on my face, back, AND chest (if you know me, you know one little zit makes me want to put a bag on my head), 3. I was tired all the time. So that is what made me take the first test- just to rule out pregnancy. Obviously, it just confirmed it. I think it would have been quite hilarious to see Reese and I finding out. I took the test early on a Sunday morning, half asleep, not expecting to see a positive. And then when I saw it, I just screamed from the toilet to Reese who was half asleep... then I burst out crying and he just sat on the bed half asleep with a look of shock on his face. It was great.
I consider myself a pretty healthy person, and obviously completely delusional because I thought that morning sickness would just skip me. Of course, it hit like a bomb at about 6 weeks. I cannot think of anything worse than morning sickness. I was taking classes, so of course my classes suffered because instead of sitting in 2 different science labs all day I was sitting next to the toilet. That was great too. So needless to say, this wasn't my greatest semester of college. In fact, it was pretty non-existent.
To try combat morning sickness, I stopped taking my prenatals and replaced those with chewy multi-vitamins. That didn't work. I could not stomach my usual breakfast of vegetable juice. The idea of eating anything remotely healthy made me gag. I was pretty much just tired and sick all the time. The only thing that stayed down, and kept me from starving was pizza and coca-cola. I know... gross right? Well, I think pizza is why I am probably alive still, so I should be grateful. And the coke helped with the daily headaches I was getting. I did have morning sickness tablets, but those caused even worse headaches AND constipation, so I avoided taking those until absolutely necessary. And then when I did, I'd have to take tylonel to get rid of the headache and live with a weeks worth of constipation. And I didn't like to cook or grocery shop or clean anymore. So Reese would get home and there'd be no food and the house looked like a bomb. He'd go off to gym, I'd stay home wallowing in sickness and self-pity and he'd come home to still no food and a bomb. So we ate a lot of pizza.
Thankfully, that only lasted a short (seemed so long at the time) 2 months and I was back to drinking vegetable juice in the morning, cooking, cleaning, eating as healthy as possible, going to gym everyday, and enjoying prenatal yoga. Oh, and that hormonal acne went away! Yay! Now I feel like I have to make up for the amount of disgusting I ate.
It took a while for anything to show. This was very annoying to me as I felt it just made me look fat. Like I had a burrito belly and that was all. Now when I look back a pictures from just a few short weeks ago, I should have embraced the smallness.
This was me at 20 weeks. I'd like to say that was a real bump, but this was taken in the evening after about 4 litres of water and dinner. Still more burrito then baby...
This picture was taken a short 3 weeks after the one above. Amazing right? I just woke up one morning and there was a permanent bump. I have also been feeling tons better about myself since I ordered a bunch of maternity clothes from the Gap. Thats where I got this dress. All their maternity clothes are super soft and comfortable. I may or may not keep wearing them even when I'm not pregnant... :)
Now, 2 weeks later, I feel like it's just ballooned! But according to my Doctor, everything is going great and baby is perfect thus far.
Speaking of baby, here "it" is:
Cute hey? I think so! Reese and I decided to not find out what we are having. I am pretty excited about it. I don't really care to find out... I don't mind either way, boy or girl. So that is exciting. And baby moves around a lot, which I love. I don't mind the jumping on my bladder, or constant kicks and jabs. I enjoy feeling the baby move.
I have been using Mamma Mio tummy rub and oil to avoid stretch marks, and so far so good! It smells delicious and feels great on your skin. My mom never got any and neither did my sister, but I figured I'd take extra precautions because lets face it.. stretch marks aren't pretty at all. Nope, not in the least. And drinking vegetable juice for breakfast in the mornings does wonders for constipation. I haven't had any problems there since I was able to start drinking the juice again.
Anyways, I'd definitely recommend pregnancy once you get past the morning sickness woes. Since then, it's been quite pleasant. I do get a little more cranky, tired, and hungry than usual, but other than that I am quite happy being pregnant. And I am very excited to meet our little baby, whatever it is. But I am happy for it to stay in there till I'm full term.
