Exploring Santiago: Day 8

Wednesday was a really relaxed day. Since we had walked over half a marathon the day before I was quite happy to lay around and do nothing. It helped that it was the big Virgin Mary holy holiday too. Everything was closed and the streets were pretty empty.

This is how Reese and I spent most of the day:
(Thank you, self-timer)

I know, I know. Lazy bums! But seriously... there was nothing else to do and the last thing I was going to do was climb back up San Cristobal Hill to swat bee's in the hot sun. When Reese and I went to go find somewhere to eat lunch even that was a struggle. There wasn't even an icecream shop open in sight! (Then you know everything is closed in Santiago) Finally, after 30-45 minutes of walking around, we found a bar open. Figures right? A bar doesn't exactly scream come to church. Anyways, the food was surprisingly good. Again I can't actually be too surprised since so far everything we have eaten here in Santiago has been divine. Wait- except for Tuesday night's dessert. We got creme brulee and it tasted like salmon. Not even joking or exaggerating. It tasted like they made the creme brulee and then before they put it in the oven or whatever, they put some salmon flavoured drops in it. Gross hey? But other than that everything has been quite tasty. Reese got a Chilean hotdog and I got spaghetti. And as usual the complimentary bread, butter, and salsa. I have left no carb, sugar, calorie, starch, oil, veggie, or fruit untouched (except for beans and olives- gross). You can tell in my face. My cheeks are melting over onto my lips. It's really attractive.

After lunch we went back to the hotel and assumed the day's position:
(Yup, it's the only picture I took of the day)

We did manage to go to gym. But I have a hard time really working out properly since I don't feel like walking or running since we do that most days, so the treadmill is out. And one can only be on the eliptical so long. Reese has figured out how to use the stationary bike as a weight, but it's too heavy for me. So I stand there lifting the water bottle up and down untill I get bored.

The rest of the day was spent watching TV, reading, and playing online. Luckily it seemed that a few restaurants decided to open up for dinner, so we were able to eat. Not that I needed it. We could have gotten dessert from the restaurant, but deemed it unnecessary since we have successfully gotten dessert at least once (if not twice) a day since we've been in Santiago.

Hopefully day 9 will be a little more entertaining!

Confessions of a Desperate Housewife

When I picture a desperate housewife (thanks to reality TV) I picture a wealthy woman- thanks to her husband- who basically hangs out all day shopping or going to lunch with her fellow housewives, travels all the time, more shopping, eats coldstone daily, works out daily, gets pampered weekly, goes to fancy events on the weekends, etc.

Friends, I have a confession. I believe I am turning into a desperate housewife. A poor version, mind you!

Most of you know that a couple months ago Reese got an amazing offer at work to relocate to Santiago, Chile to open an office down there to expand his company's software and open up a call center. Reese didn't even have to call me before he accepted the offer. It is a great opportunity for him to expand his work experience and to use his spanish.
I LOVE to travel, and for the most part I'm up for any type of adventure that includes travelling to another country.
So the plan was to be in Chile anywhere from 6 months to 1 year +. The plan was to leave the end of September. It being the end of October, and Reese and I still being in Mesa... It obviously didn't work out like we first thought. Long story short, his company didn't get into the program (through the Chilean government) that they wanted to, so our trip details have changed a bit. We may still go to Chile this year, but only for a month... And next year we will go back and forth two or three times before the move becomes semi-permanent. So it's kind of confusing. But back to me. (Cause we all know this blog is all about me and how great I am)

Anyways, because we thought we were going to be leaving the end of September, I un-enrolled from school... and we were able to sell 12 West Main in September... so I was all squared away to leave. No work or school commitments.

We are at the end of October and I still have no school or work commitments. Hence my transformation into this:
How does one look so fabulous while sleeping on the couch. My version looks like something you see on an airplane. You know... mouth open, weird sleeping position.
I wish 5 of my friends didn't work or go to school too so they could come shopping with me. Usually it's me and my water bottle... wondering the isles of Target.
I would love to have my own hairstylist everyday- but for the most part its just me ruining the ozone layer with my hairspray.
Thats Liisa and me... She's the one in the pink sports bra. I wouldn't be caught dead in a pink one!

And in our short 15 month marriage. Reese and I have gone on holiday or lived in:

Arizona
Puerto Rico
District of Columbia
Virginia
West Virginia
Pennsylvania
Maryland
New York
South Africa
Botswana
Utah
California
New Mexico

So there has been lots of moving around. All our wedding presents are still in their original packaging, waiting hoping to be used. They are currently sitting in my parents entry way. You see, we are staying with them till we depart to Chile.

I am aware that there are some not so lovely qualities of a desperate housewife... One that comes to mind is this:

If you're still reading my blog in 30 years, I will add that to my list!

So friends... hope that Reese and I go to Chile soon so I don't have to continue my desperate housewife habits!

What to do...

I should take pictures of the flat/basement we are living in right now. It's quite cute and LOTS bigger than the studio flat we were staying in last year... But I haven't taken any photo's of it yet. We spend a lot of time in it because as you can see in the last post, its FREEZING outside.

Anyways, Reese got us these starving student cards. They're pretty cool, and definitely worth the $40 for two. It's basically a bunch of fast food/restaurants/stores/grocery stores/activities/etc listed on the card that either gives you free stuff for having the card, or big discounts. And since we are poor starving newlyweds, they are essential. :) So last weekend we went to a basketball game for free. It wasn't anything huge, just UVU playing some other team, but perfect because it was inside a warm stadium away from the freezing-ness.

See- not a very important game...
