Cancun 2012

In January, Reese and I decided that we needed to do something fun for spring break. We hadn't been to Mexico for a while, so we decided Cancun would be a good idea!

We originally booked our trip for 6 days, but Reese had somethings come up at work, so for the first 2 days my mom joined me. Reese came down for the last 4 days.

It was also so much fun to meet some friends down there as well. If you ever need good travel buddies... Mindy, Danny, Julie, and Jordan are good ones! :)

My computer is refusing to rotate the pictures, so you'll have to rotate your face.

We departed for Cancun the first week in March. A little back story- about a week after we booked our trip, Reese and I found out we were pregnant. Biggest surprise ever! I didn't think anything of it. When we found out I was only about 3 weeks along and didn't feel much different other than a few things which I will blog about later. That all changed at about 7 weeks. That's when the throwing up and other morning sickness woes began. This made us worry because we had this trip all planned and no travel insurance because we weren't planning on getting pregnant. And how fun does Mexico sound when you are attached to the toilet or can't get out of bed? We decided we would just wait it out and I would load up on the medicine while in Mexico if I was still sick. I was really lucky to only feel sick twice the whole time we were down there. I only had to take medicine those two times, and other than that I was great! It might have been because I just laid on the beach and ate... and that was about it. But either way, the trip was not ruined (other than looking fat) by morning sickness!

The little resort we stayed at was called Beachscape Kin-Ha, one of the oldest resorts in Cancun. It's a very family friendly resort, very clean, affordable, is on the most beautiful beach, and wasn't crowded at all. It was perfection!

This could be a nice thing for some, and others might hate it... but all the rooms had two double beds- no king sized. In our case, this was great. While my mom was with me we got our own beds, and when Reese arrived we didn't have to worry about playing tug-a-war with the sheets! So this was a perk!

Here is my mom on our first day. This was her first time in Mexico. Although we didn't explore Mexico, I think she really enjoyed herself. We did go into downtown Cancun, but if you've been there before, you know it looks just like the strip in Vegas. It's very commercial, safe, and TONS of Americans.

So excited to be on the beach!

Gotta love the self-timer on camera's!

We opted for the all-inclusive meal plan while we were in Cancun which turned out to be the best idea ever. Food in such a touristy place is very expensive. We were a little hesitant to see what kind of food would be offered, but it all turned out wonderful. Breakfast was a buffet with pretty much everything. They had the usual breads, fruit, cereals, yogurt, and milk. Then they also had an omelet station where a cook would make you an omelet right then and there. Those were delicious! There was also french toast, country potatoes, and the traditional Mexican breakfast of beans and tortillas with meat.

Julie, my mom, Danny, and me getting ready for a day in the sun!

The weather was perfection every single day. We were on the Caribbean side, so the water was calm and clear as day! It's actually the perfect beach for kids! About a 10 minute walk down the beach and there were body surfing waves. So we had the best of both worlds.

Lunch by the beach didn't disappoint either!

Carissa and Jake were on holiday at a resort a few km's down from us, so they came for a visit. Carissa got a little bit burnt...

First time for my mom in the Caribbean!
Woohoo! It was so nice that she could come- even for a few short days.

Lunch on the beach!

About 30 minutes after my mom had to leave to catch her flight, Reese arrived. I am surprised he wasn't completely dead. He red-eyed it from Phoenix to Charlotte, then Charlotte to Cancun. That made for a long trip there, but he was so happy to be on the beach eating ceviche!

A much deserved break from work...

Lounging in paradise!

There was the cutest little girl running along the beach. I just had to snap a picture. Creepy? Probably!

Every night, they set up a table with lights on the beach for any couples who wanted to have a fancy lobster dinner.

Dinner with our friends!

Mindy and Danny

Julie and Jordan

There was so much on the menu. I should have taken more pictures of food, but I didn't! This was a table favourite: Coconut crusted shrimp with a spicy mango chutney. All the food was really good. We tried to order something different every time and we still didn't make it through the menu.

We made a couple night trips into town. Of course, a trip to Cancun isn't complete until you make it through the flea markets. All I have to say is good thing Mindy and I have experience courtesy of South Africa and that Reese spoke Spanish. The bartering was definitely in our favour.

Another beautiful day on the beach!

I found a mermaid in the water:

So happy to not be in negative degree weather... How do you guys live in Canada?

I am pretty sure she spent 3 hours in the water like this!

Pretending to take a picture of Minds so I could get another shot of the cute little girl. Ok, super creepy!

The mermaid.

Enjoying our time on the beach.

Dinner with my Reesey...

Tanned, handsome man!

To the left of our resort, there were just holiday homes and there were all beautiful!

How great would it be to own one of these?

Could this be heaven?

I think so!

Some of the popular resorts far from us!

Please notice how big my lower lip is. No, not botox. That would be swelling from a little sun-burnt lips. I couldn't smile with my teeth! They felt so big!

Stunning!

Love, love, love!

More great holiday homes...

Some body's personal dock...

In deep thought:

Reese was really amused by the hair on his feet with the sand. Must be a guy thing?

Savouring our last day!

There's a baby in there!

And here is a series of pictures of model, Reese. This is what he likes to call "slowly wading"

"The look back"

"The splash"

My favourite by far, "the million dollar shot"

And then of course, channelling his inner Baywatch:

Last shot of the beach!

Hanging out by the beach waiting for our transportation back to the airport:

All in all it was a wonderful trip and just what the doctor ordered for all 7 of us! It was great to take a break from normal life and just do absolutely nothing but lay on the beach and eat! :) I fully recommend  a trip to Cancun if you need to relax!!!
